Montevideo wetlands - Half-day tour
This is a field trip to the surprisingly tranquil outskirts of Montevideo, where well preserved wetlands still exist. There we can find the following species: Silver Teal, Brazilian Duck, Long-winged Harrier, Giant wood Rail, Field Flicker, Straight-billed Reedhaunter, Spectackled Tyrant, Finch, Yellow-wingled Blackbird.
Eastern Hills (Sierras de Maldonado) - 1 day tour
Very early in the morning we drive along a wonderful coastline to Maldonado, a providence in the eastern side of the country. Upon reaching the Maldonado Hills, we visit a very well preserved native forest area looking for open areas birds, such as: Field flicker, Freckle-breasted thornbird, Rufous-capped Antsshrike, Blue-billed, Black-Tyrant, Crested Blabk-tyrant, Rufous-browed Peppershrike, and Yellow-rumped Marshbird, Chopi Blackbird. In the afternoon we go to the coastal lagoons looking for shore and seabirds like Chilean Flamingo, Black-necked swan, Coscoroba Swan, Brown Pintail, Snowy-Crowned Tern, Wren-like Rushbird and Straight-billed Reedhaunter. The sunset is a most suitable moment for sighting birds, before making the short drive back.
Eastern Wetlands (Bañados de Rocha) - 1 day tour
Before dawn we take the coastal highway to the very eastern corner of Uruguay, Rocha, whose motto reads "the province where the sun rises". During the trip we stop at Guazubirá Wetlands, where a birdwatching hide was recently built. There we can find three kinds of Coots, Giant Wood Rail, Spot-flanked Gallinule, Black-headed Duck and Silver Teal. Once in Rocha we visit the extensive wetlands and coastal lagoons looking for birds such as the Black-Neck Swan, Coscoroba Swan, Bron Pintail, Ringed Teal, Rosy-billed Pochard, Field Flicker, Wren-like Rushbird, Straight-billed Reedhaunter, Spectackled Tyrant, Brown and Yellow Marshbird and Yellow wingled Blackbird. At dusk we return to Montevideo.
