DAY 1 – Montevideo
You will be greeted at the airport of Montevideo by a bilingual tour guide representing Mac Travel who will accompany the group during the entire stay in Uruguay. Transfer to the hotel by private bus, check-in and free time to rest. Dinner at the hotel restaurant
DAY 2 – Montevideo / Costumbres Uruguayas: Mate, Asado y Carnaval.
Breakfast. In the morning we will make a guided Tour by the most important traditional and tourist spots of Montevideo. Our first stop will be at the "Mercado Agrícola" where you will learn what are some of the products that are usually consumed by the Uruguayan population and you will have the chance to taste their most famous drink: El Mate. El Mate is a beverage resulting from the infusion of Yerba Mate (dried and ground leaves) and is one of the most typical and traditional cultural elements of Uruguayan society.
On this visit you will learn the history and the preparation, in addition to taste the drink, you will be gifted with a set of Mate.
Visit to the Mercado del Puerto, iconic place of the local gastronomy, for a tour of its facilities and then have lunch at one of its restaurants. The Uruguayan meat (awarded worldwide) on the grill is par excellence one of the most important menus of the Uruguayan diet. You will have the opportunity to taste different cuts of meat. (Vegetarian passengers will have options prepared for them).
After lunch, guided tour of the Museo del Carnaval, to know the details of one of the most popular festivals in the country. Learn its history, see costumes, old and current photos of the different groups presented during Carnival and finish with a brief workshop of Candombe, an Afro-Uruguayan percussion rhythm and dance unique in the world.
We continue walking on a tour of the Old Town where we will see the Plaza Matriz, Catedrál Metropolitana, el Cabildo, la Peatonal Sarandí and el Teatro Solís (one of the oldest and most beautiful theaters in South America).
Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 3 – Montevideo / Día de Campo en Finca Piedra / Colonia del Sacramento
Breakfast.
Early in the morning departure to Finca Piedra, an eco-tourist stay, located near to Colonia.
Its 20 hectares of selected vineyards and the wonderful environment that form the Sierras de Muhammad, stream La Coronilla and lakes are just some of its greatest charms.
The Estancia offers a variety of outdoor activities and tours, such as: horseback riding, horse-drawn carriage, guided walk, tour the vineyards and winery, Native Animal and Milk Reserve, Cooking Class on "Los Olivos", Sports Activities (fishing, Volleyball, Basketball, tennis, soccer), swimming pool, bird watching and Beekeeping.
Lunch and snack included.
By late afternoon, transfer to Colonia del Sacramento, opposite (merging on Rio de la Plata) to Buenos Aires city.
Dinner at local restaurant. Accommodation.
DAY 4 – Colonia del Sacramento / Historic and Cultural Patrimony / Land of inmmigrants
Breakfast
In the morning, we take a guided tour by the charming town of Colonia del Sacramento. Touring the area of Real de San Carlos, Plaza de Toros (ex bullring fighting Colisseum), San Benito Chapel and Complejo Miánovich, Fronton, Hippodrome, Muelle. Bordering the bay through residential neighborhoods to reach the historic district, declared World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1995, for a walking tour through the stonned streets (pedradas) and appreciating the Spanish and Portuguese architectural mix. Also see the Portón de Campo, Faro defensive walls and bastions of the nineteenth century.
We will have lunch in the restaurant of the Railway within the "Museo de Recrear la Historia" with a beautiful view of the old Real de San Carlos.
In the afternoon departure to Montevideo.
Accommodation and dinner.
DAY 5 – Montevideo / Eastern Resorts / Beaches / Art & local delights.
Breakfast. Morning departure to Punta del Este touring the beaches of Montevideo and the Gold Coast. We will stop in the city of Piriápolis, to admire the "Argentino Hotel", a building built in 1920. Then we will go to Cerro San Antonio to enjoy a view view of the city, beaches and hills.
Arriving at Punta del Este, we tour the Playa Mansa and residential neighborhoods. We stop at the Ralli Museum which has one of the most important collections of Latin America and visit the Foundation of the sculptor Pablo Atchugarry in Barra de Maldonado.
We will have lunch on the peninsula of Punta del Este. In the afternoon we continue to Punta Ballena to visit Casapueblo Museum-Workshop of the Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró. Later in the establishment "Lapataia" we take an afternoon snack, with exquisite local delicacies and typical food.
Return to Montevideo at the end of the afternoon. Dinner at the hotel and lodging.
DAY 6 – Montevideo / Mujica’s Land / Cerro & Mujica's Founded Agricultural School
Breakfasts and meeting with the Guide. Depart to visit one of the most beautiful and attractive areas of Montevideo called "el Cerro". This place was discovered first by the Portuguese. As highlights, we will visit the Golf Club and the General Artigas (national hero) Fortress to appreciate the Museum with its canons and different kinds of weapons. Lunch included (restaurant to be defined).
We will continue to visit the agricultural school founded by Jose "Pepe" Mujica, which is opposite his farm (place of habitual residence of the ex-president of Uruguay). This agricultural school was assembled thanks to a donation by the Fundación Purificación (comprising Mujica, his wife and other people). The donation consisted of the building and the materials needed for its operation. Students do workshops at Mujica's home-farm, where many times, students share experiences with him and listen to his stories and life fables.
In the afternoon, visit to the Mercado de la Abundancia where the Tango Joven Foundation works, giving classes of this popular dance of European origin, but improved and adapted to the culture of Rio de la Plata. This cultural institution was founded 37 years ago in order to promote the art of Tango through courses, publications, conferences and festivals.
After a class we will enjoy a farewell dinner at The Milongón, a cultural center where you can enjoy a taste of typical Uruguayan music and dance, including folklore, tango and candombe. Dinner is served with dishes during the show. All drinks are included. Accommodation.
DAY 7 – Montevideo
Breakfast. At the indicated time, transfer to airport for your international flight.
